Renowned worldwide, the Drakensberg Boys Choir offers the finest musical experience and their offerings ensure a festive treat. You can listen to the talented boys presenting choral, classical and rock music, as well as a full second half made up of local repertoire. The showcase is staged from the 7th to 9th December 2018.
For another consecutive year, Durban’s most intimate music event is back again at Ollivander’s Estate in Shongweni. This eventful festival offers plenty of incredible music and a really good time for the over 21s. Durban Day Dreaming will not let you down, as long as you’re over 21. Enjoy the experience on the 8th December 2018.
The Durban Botanic Gardens will once again be ablaze with thousands of lights for the annual Trail of Lights event. As night falls, the whole family will be enchanted as nature comes to life under the glow of Christmas cheer and festivities. There’s something for everyone at this festive event, an illuminated trail that winds its way through Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden, providing a magical experience. Enjoy the lights on the 14th – 30th December 2018.
If you haven’t already booked your New Year’s event, Ballito New Year’s Eve Street Party is firmly on the map. You can soak up the summer sun and welcome the new year in at the Southbroom New Year’s Eve party. Once again, the main beach will be set to say cheers to 2018. Come through on the 31st December 2018.
KZN is home to the Valley of a Thousand Hills and there is never a shortage of beautiful hiking trails. Guided festive walks include:
Saturday 8 December 2018: Honey Trails in Monteseel: you can enjoy expansive views on new trails over grassland and through bush.
Sat 15 December 2018: Giba Gorge to MacIntosh Falls: you can hike along some steep trails to the bottom of MacIntosh Falls and enjoy the cool spray.
Saturday 22 December 2018: Shongweni Polo Grounds to dams: hike on trails through cane fields to lower dams.
Saturday 29 December 2018 at the Crowned Eagle Conservancy and Iphithi Reserve: these are reclaimed wetlands in two conservancies. To see more hikes and get the deets on these check out this hiking group.
The Amatikulu Nature Reserve is roughly an hour’s drive from Durban, and is one of those rare natural hidden gems. The 4×4 trail in the Amatikulu is probably the main attraction and even sedans can manage the initial part of it. It’s a wonderful stretch on which to see wildlife.
